Question
I am thirteen weeks pregnant. I have sinus congestion and a sore throat. I would like to avoid taking antibiotics if possible, but I am concerned that an infection could hurt the fetus. What should I do?
Answer
Consult a doctor to determine whether it is viral or a bacterial infection. If it is a viral infection, no antibiotics are required and only decongestants may be required. If bacterial antibiotics under your doctor's guidance will be required.
Avoid drugs such as nimesulide for fever.
