Question
I am 22 weeks pregnant and my baby has arpkd. My husband and myself are carriers and didn't know it. We know there is no hope for our baby but are now concerned for our 6 years old son. We are going to have to wait 8 weeks for a scan on his kidneys. I have been reading about this disease and it seems that it can present itself in later childhood. What are the symptoms we need to look out for? I am scarred out of my mind for him
Answer
One needs to get a usg kidney, urine test and blood pressure checked. The risk of a child being affected is 25% and hence a 75% chance that the child may not be affected.
