Question
Sir, my wife is 8 month pregnant , before we have taken scanning on 5th month and 7th month. Baby is in good condition, now 8th month, We scanned. They found the baby's one kidney is enlarged . We are upset .There is any problem in delivery time, After birth of baby? Please kindly give valuable advise. Thanking you sir, your truly.
Answer
For a large kidney detected antenatally at 8 months, you will have to repeat the sonography of the baby after birth on Day3-5 of life and see how large is the kidney and what is causing it to enlarge. IF there is an obstruction, the child may require a nuclear scan to look for the obstruction and whether surgical intervention is required. If there is no obstruction, then one would have to wait and watch and observe if the swelling becomes less on its own. Usually it becomes less on its own, if not surgery may be required.
