Question
My 6 month old son is passing watery stools(sometimes green colored) since past one week,8 to 10 times during a day. He is on breast feeds plus home cooked rice--made into a paste--twice a day. I have started giving him 1teaspoon banana(less ripe) twice a day and also giving one teaspoon yoghurt twice a day. I give him water 2 ,3 times a day--50ml(each time).please let know when it may get cured and what diet I should follow--for treatment.
Answer
Do you boil the water before giving it to the child? Unboiled water is the commonest cause of diarrhea in infants. Usually diarrhea in infants is viral in origin and subsides in 5-7 days. If it persists longer, then get his stool examined to rule out bacterial infection and also intolerance to milk. You may continue to breast feed him and also continue to feed him regularly as you are continuing. Diarrhea should subside on its own course.
