Question Category : Cerebral Palsy
My five year old step-son has been diagnosed with a slight case of CP. It has recently come to our attention that biological mother has genital herpes and did during time of pregnancy and for some years prior to pregnancy. Biological mother also has had severe cocaine/substance abuse problems before and after pregnancy (during pregnancy unknown but suspected). Could the cocaine use and genital herpes be the cause of his CP (child was delivered vaginally)? He has also been given a diagnosis of "global delay" and "mental retardation". Could these have been caused by mother's addictions and infections? PLEASE HELP
Question Category : Cerebral Palsy
Thanks for answering my earlier query. Accordingly, I understand that my child has severe microcephaly (small head) due to the birth asphyxia. With no development of milestones at even 5 months of age and early closure of the fontanelle (soft spot) on the skull, her prognosis is poor. She seems to have developed cerebral palsy.

Now in her 8th month, her activities include crying for Milk or if when she needs her diaper to be changed, saying "hu-goo" and when someone whistles she smiles and plays. She can hold up her head and can roll over when in mood. But she does not sit without support or crawl. Trust that you can answer my further queries :

1) Why do her palms and feet turn light blue sometimes for 10 to 15 minutes ( 3 to 4 times a week). Her head has grown only 2 cms since her birth.

2) Now after 8 months she has started to have some convulsions (10 seconds, about 3 to 4 times daily). They continued for a week and then stopped. Will giving Gardinal stop these convulsions permanently? If not given timely, will it damage her brain or other activities more ?

3) We have started her physotherapy since last 2 months, but response is not very encouraging. Will she be able to walk ?

4) If I plan for a second child, will she/he again be a CP

Thanks in advance.

My four-year son has cerebral palsy. He is still not able to sit, talk, walk, and speak. How much time it take to make a cerebral palsy patient at least self dependent. Question Category : Cerebral Palsy
My daughter is 3 and half years old. She is a vacuum baby. At the time of delivery, her mother was given the injection for painless delivery. After delivery my baby became blue and she had been kept in front of Halogen light for heat. She was not kept under incubator. After 8 months we noticed that her eyes are squient and we went to the eye specialist and at that time he told that her optic nerve was pale and she is not able to see. She got a feet at the age of 1 year. Presently, she cannot sit properly, she can't stay or walk. She still crowls. Sometimes she picks up a very small thing which is somewhat far away from her and sometimes she cannot see even a big thing put in front of her. She can follow the instructions what we say to her. She speaks certain words. She also picks up certain words from the sentences what we say. She is undergoing physiotherapy treatment. Whether she is having C.P.? If yes, what is the degree of C.P? How severe it is? Is there any curability? Is it possible that this can happen due to vacuum or she became blue after birth? What about her schooling? Kindly give me the answer as soon as possible. Thanks.

My 11 month old son has mild CP and severe GERD. He has had a Nissen and a G-tube placed 3 months ago. He is still not able to tolerate feeds even through the tube and has not gained more than 1 lb in the 3 month time frame. Once his stomach is full, he presents with color change, pin point pupils, bodily thrashing and involuntary jerking. Everything seems to be blamed on the reflux, but I feel we are missing something. Any suggestions?
