Bacterial Infections

			Cellulitis It is acute suppurative inflammation of the connective tissue layer in the subcutaneous tissues.

			Impetigo It is a bacterial skin infection which is highly contagious. It appears as honey crusted sores.

			Scarlet fever - Differentiate from atypical measles Atypical measles occurs in individuals who were previously immunized with the killed measles vaccine between 1963 and 1967 and who have incomplete immunity.

			Scrub Typhus Scrub typhus, also called Tsutsugamushi disease, is an acute infectious disease that is transmitted to humans by certain mites (chiggers).

Life Threatning Infections

			Stevens Johnson Syndrome & Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis It is an adverse cutaneous drug reaction and a complex immunological complex also, involving atleast 2 mucous membranes.

			Toxic Shock Syndrome It is a potential fatal infection resulting from a bacterial toxin.

			Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome It is a syndrome consisting of skin blistering disorder caused due to exfoliative toxins A & B of Staphylococcus aureus.

Viral Infections

			Herpes Herpes zoster is a skin rash that occurs due to varicella zoster virus (the same virus that causes chicken pox).

			Pityriasis Rosea It is a common acute exanthematous skin disorder with unknown etiology.

Common Skin Infections

			Rubella German measles or rubella is an acute viral infection that leads to mild rash and enlarged lymph nodes. It is caused by the rubella virus.

			Scabies Scabies is a skin disorder caused by the scabies mite (a small parasite that is present in the skin of infected patients) leading to persistent itching. This itching is worse at night and commonly affects hands, wrists and fingers, elbows, armpits, nipples & buttocks.

			Measles Measles is a common viral infection caused by the measles virus. It is characterized by symptoms of cold and fever followed by appearance of classical rash.

			Chicken Pox Chickenpox is one of the commonest skin infections of childhood. It is characterized by the development of elevated boil like vesicles that are fluid filled, itchy lesions all over the body.
