Question
Our adopted son who turned 3 back in Jan is very small and under weight (23 lbs) and he has not gained any weight since arrived from India almost 1 year ago. Last year when our son arrived here after a few weeks he started getting diarrhea and stools tests showed Hymenolepsis Nana & Giardia Lambia. We have gone through 8 or 9 rounds of various medicines including Nitazoxanide, Metronidazole (Flagy), Combantrin, Praziquantel. Last Nov. our son started improving and getting normal stools although some but not all the stool tests still came positive for the above to diseases. This March his diarrhea has returned on and off and the last stool tests showed a positive results for both Hymenolepsis Nana & Giardia Lambia again. I don't know what to do and he is not growing - please help?
Answer
Since he is harboring both the infections still, you may want to treat him with furazolidone.
