Question
In the case of children with delayed dentition, how long we should wait? What investigations to be done if child comes by two years of age? Is there any role of calcium supplementation during dentition as parents ask for some drug for easy teething. If yes, how long to recommend? Is there something called fever during teething? (daat ka bukhaar) how to explain them?
Answer
Usually the Primary teeth erupt by one year of age. If there is no eruption till one year, consult a dentist. An X ray may be advised to rule out anodontia.
There is no role of calcium supplements. Fever during teething is not seen. Since teething usually occurs at the time of crawling and mouthing, there is high incidence of infection and viral infections which parents may associate with teething.
