Question
If a pregnant mother gets a scorpion sting, is there any correlation that the baby born happens to get scorpion sting, will develop minimal or no symptoms of envenomation?
Answer
Dr Bawaskar - Scorpion venom is poor antigenic and do not induce long term immunity. We have a of record victims of with repeated sting and each time suffered of severe clinical manifestations. However venom does cross the placental barrier . In my record, mother who was stung by scorpion had signs and symptoms of autonomic storm and she complaint of decrease in fetal movement which was regained to normal during recovery with oral prazosin. Venom is excreted in milk.
