Question
Dose the sucrose acts as an analgesic component in treating the pediatric age group patients?
Answer
There have been several studies that have found that sucrose acts as an analgesic in newborns. Oral sucrose reduces crying and tachycardia in term infants undergoing a standard painful procedure, blood sampling by heel prick, with a manual lancet. The fact that the effect is dose dependent suggests that oral sucrose has analgesic properties.
