Question
I would like information on benign neonatal myclonus of sleep. Please include the prognosis of this condition. Thanks.
Answer
Benign neonatal myoclonus of sleep as the name suggests is a "benign" condition. These are mycolonic jerks or sudden involuntary brief jerks of one or more extremities or part of an extremity in sleep in neonates. They occur during early stages of sleep and last for few minutes and may be repetitive during sleep. It is not a type of epilepsy. It usually disappears by 6 months of life. Infants have normal development. The prognosis is excellent.
