Question
A Newborn aged 3 days, 5th child to the non-consanguineous parents, delivered by LSCS, (placentapraevia),a term baby developed upper distension with visible peristalsis on the 2nd day. He passed normal meconium & urine, is also able to retain mother feeds. He was seen by the Pediatric Surgeon on the same day, and was advised to continue breastfeeds, suspected in terms of malrotation by Paed.Surgeon. Distension persists till date without vomiting(25-08-05) Need 2nd opinion and advise by Paed. surgeon. Thanking you.
Answer
If the distension persists and the surgeon suspects malrotation, then an ultrasound may be useful to look for dilated intestinal loops and if suspicion is so strong then barium studies may be required.
