Valproate though a braod spectrum anti convulsant may not be needed in all patients with epilepsy. For patients with GTC, one may give phenobarbitone or phenytoin. For partial seizures, one may give phenytoin and carbamazepine. Valporate may be given in absence seizures or myoclonic seizures.
