Question
How long should we give imipramine for bedwetting in partial response? Any better drug? Any known side effect of new drug?
Answer
Desmopressin and imipramine both improve bedwetting but there is no good evidence of lasting benefit after treatment is stopped. A trial period of 6 months is usually offered and if successful, tapered over a few weeks. Imipramine has high frequency of serious adverse effects and should be used with great caution.

Oxybutinin, an anticholinergic drug, is used in the treatment of incontinence due to detrusor overactivity. It may therefore have a role in the treatment of bedwetting when detrusor overactivity is a factor.
