Question
Could we use the drug omperazole for treating GER in infants, and how much the dose & duration?
Answer
There have been various studies for use of omeprazole in children and infants.
Some authors recommend a starting dose of 0.7 mg/kg as a single morning dose. Omeprazole appears to be safe for short-term use, but further studies are needed to assess long-term safety because the significance of chronically elevated gastric levels in children is unknown.
