Can you please explain what "Inflammatory Linear Epidermal Nevus" is?
Answer
Linear epidermal nevus are wart like growths on the skin because of increase cell turnover in the skin. They usually present at birth but may also present at puberty. Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN) is a rare, chronic skin condition that begins in early childhood. It presents as an itching lesion on the legs. It may rarely be associated with arthritis, epilepsy, mental retardation, cataracts, spine problems and enlargement of limbs. Cancers may also arise. Treatment consists of excision if possible but this may not anatomically or cosmetically feasible. Other therapies include topical agents, dermabrasion, cryotherapy, laser therapy.
