D.D.T. (Dichloro – Diphenyl – trichloroethane)
 
It is a white crystalline solid. It is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol and kerosene oil. it is used as 2-5 percent solutionin kerosene to kill bugs, mosquitoes, lice, fleas and flies

Route : Ingestion , inhalation, absorbed through skin

Fatal dose : 30gm

Fatal Period : 24hrs

Mechanism of action : It interferes with nerve impulse transmission. CNS is first stimulated and then depressed

Clinical picture : • Acute poisoning manifests as: vomiting, cough, excitation, vomiting, tremors, convulsions,incoordination, paralysis of muscles, pulmonasry edema and coma
• In chronic poisoning: mental anxiety, insomnia, muscular weakness and pain, anemia, convulsions, coma


Treatment : • Gastric lavage
• I.V. calcium gluconate
• Injection atropine
• Symptomatic
