Anti-histaminics
 
They antagonize the effects of histamine. Commonly used preparations are antistine, histantin, chlorphenirmine, promethazine



Route : ingestion, inhalation or injection

Fatal dose : 1gm

Mechanism of action :



Clinical picture : Occur due to excitation and depression of CNS
• dryness of mouth, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, urinary retention and nervousness
• agranulocytosis and aplastic anemia
• in large doses, fixed dilated pupils, disorientation, hyperreflexia, tremors, nystagmus, convulsions


Treatment : • stomach wash
• Physostigmine: 0.5mg to 2mg i.v. every hour till reversal of symptoms occurs
• diazepam i.v.
